Your LinkedIn Profile Is A Mess. Let’s fix it today With These 7 Tips.

Lots of entrepreneurs and small businesses are lost in the wilderness with LinkedIn. Whyyyyyy? I'm not looking for a job. How do you use it? Why do I need to do this?? Some people think LinkedIn is boring… well I’m here to tell you it’s not. You DO need it for your business. It is the place to develop real business relationships and get a pulse on the amazing things happening in the world especially in business technology. It doesn’t cost money, but it does cost time. hashtag#realtalk

My Top 7 Considerations:

  1. Secure your name. If your name is Frank Clark, there are other Frank Clark’s out there. Make sure you find a way to make your stand out from all the other Frank Clark’s out there.

  2. Check your LinkedIn at least twice per week. Always amazed as how some keep their LinkedIn stale and stagnant. There is so much to know and learn on LinkedIn, people are amazing. Gems and insights can help you solve all kinds of work problems.

  3. For pete’s sake, please get a professional head shot or use your new iPhone or Pixel and take a super powered selfie.
    - If you are going to wear a t shirt, please wear a branded t shirt with your company logo
    - Unless you are super rich and retired, please don’t use a photo of you windsurfing as your profile photo.
    - Don’t wear too much blingy or make up. Make sure your face is well lit against a clean and simple background
    - Download AI selfie apps so you can retouch your face if you feel it necessary. OMG.

  4. Visualize who you are talking to or want to talk to on LinkedIn. LinkedIn is a business channel, not instagram or Facebook. Imagine you are having a conversation with one on one with your customer or target audience. The minute you start talking to yourself, you’ve already lost the customer. Focus on how whatever you did benefitted someone else. If what you are doing is not helping someone else win, you aren’t in business, you are an ego maniac.

  5. Whatever you like on LinkedIn, everyone will see. Like everyone. Only "like" posts that you are ok with your customers knowing you like the thing.

  6. Get a Company Page on LinkedIn.
    - Post exclusively company related content from your business page and then share it to your personal
    - Your company page should post higher level content about your company and related industry news. If you are a branding firm, post client work (only if they have given you permission to do so) and then also post branding news and events happening globally. Are you a lawyer, repost industry news and content from others that is related to your industry. Follow other companies like yours so you know what your competition is doing.

  7. Shoot video of yourself
    - Use LinkedIn’s native video platform and film yourself. You’ll get better results and more views.
    - Give someone insights on how to close a deal, how to read a contract, how to find the best media consultant. Always remember you are the expert. You have so much knowledge to share and most people are looking for solutions from someone like you.

That’s it! Now go and fix it! :)
